Morzie, Women | Life | Freedom
Women in Iran are still fighting for basic fundamental human rights. Currently, in Iran, women are at the forefront of this fight for freedom and chanting "women, life, freedom". "Women, life, freedom" is a slogan that first originated by Kurdish women back in the 2000s and is now being used amid the ongoing Iranian revolution.
On September 16, 2022, a 22-year-old woman named Jina (Mahsa) Amini died in the hospital after being beaten to death by the morality police. The reasoning? Because Mahsa was showing too much hair outside of her hijab. Since that day, Iranian women have taken to the streets fighting for justice and chanting "women, life, freedom".
The younger generation have been leading the protests all over Iran, fighting for their basic rights and freedom. Many young souls have been lost amidst the ongoing protests. Despite all that, they are continuing to fight for "women, life, freedom".
This unprecedented revolution has gained worldwide attention with protests going on around the world. This ongoing revolution is something that is not going away anytime soon. We must keep pushing forward. If not now, then when? This is a photo series that I creative directed and photographed that is inspired by the "women, life, freedom" movement and the strength of Iranian women who have been fighting for their freedom.
